Getting clean cutouts around hair and fur
Hair, fur, and fuzzy edges are where background removal earns its keep — thousands of tiny transitions between subject and background that a hard edge can’t capture. Kavij has a few tools aimed squarely at this.
Turn on hair and fur refinement
The Refine hair and fur option enables alpha matting, which estimates partial transparency along soft edges instead of a single hard boundary. It takes a moment longer to process but recovers strands the default pass would clip.
Choose the precise model
For portraits and anything with intricate outlines, switch the model selector to Precise. It is tuned for sharper, more faithful edges than the faster default.
Finish by hand
Zoom in and use the restore brush at a small size to paint back any strands that were trimmed, or the erase brush to clear a halo. A minute of touch-up turns a good cutout into a convincing one.
