KavijTransparent PNG or JPG? Choosing the right export
Kavij can export your finished cutout as either a PNG or a JPG. They behave very differently, and picking the right one saves you trouble later.
PNG keeps transparency
A PNG preserves the see-through background, so your subject can sit on any color or layer in a design tool. That flexibility comes with a larger file size. Reach for PNG whenever the image will be composited, placed in a document, or handed to a designer.
JPG is smaller but solid
JPG cannot store transparency, so any cleared area is filled with a solid color on export. It produces much smaller files, which is ideal for web pages and email when your background is already a single flat color.
A simple rule
Export PNG while you are still designing, and JPG only when you have committed to a solid backdrop and want the lightest possible file. When in doubt, keep the PNG — you can always flatten it to JPG later.
